The Hylander Singing Men take the time to tour the Queen Mary

While we were in Long Beach with Pastor John Wilkerson, the Hylander Singing Men had the opportunity to go see the Queen Mary. The Queen Mary is the only remaining troop transport from World War 2. Built as a cruise ship in 1936, the Queen Mary was outfitted as a troop transport at the outset of World War 2 because of her speed and size. After the war, she was outfitted again as a cruise ship. The Queen Mary now belongs to the city of Long Beach where she is on display.

The Hylander Singing Men in Southern California

Singing at the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, California

The Hylander Singing Men are finally in Southern California! Our first stop was First Baptist Church, in Long Beach California, pastored by our graduate John Wilkerson. We enjoyed a great weekend with Pastor Wilkerson. On Saturday, we went to the Saturday morning men’s prayer meeting, where we had the privilege to sing and testify. On Sunday, we sang in 5 different services: the English and Spanish teen Sunday Schools, the English service, the Cambodian service, and the Korean service. What a great work there at First Baptist Church!

On our way to Anthem, AR, the Hylander Singing Men stopped at the 4 Corners, where the states of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona meet together. We could actually say we were in 4 places at the same time!

Teen Camp

The Hylander Singing Men had the privilege of being able to spend the week with Pastor Brent Lenentine at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Teen Camp, in Hesperus, CO. Pastor Lenentine is the pastor of the Gospel Light Baptist Church in Rio Rancho, NM. All week the long we enjoyed great fellowship in getting to know the teens that attended the camp. Activities such as white water rafting, softball, flag football, and many others allowed us to get to know the campers. Anthony Collins, our tour preacher, was the main speaker each night of camp, while the men sang. Mr. Collins preached several great messages and many of the teenagers made decisions. Some made decisions to live clean lives and take away anything that would keep God from working in their lives. Some made decisions to pray when they could not do anything else about their situations and circumstances. Many made the decision to take a stand and be the one. What a great week!

On June 11, the Hylander Singing Men were in Fort Worth, TX, with Hyles-Anderson College graduate, Pastor Bruce Engleman. Before we left town, Bro. Engleman took us to see another great man of God. Fort Worth was home to the great First Baptist Church of Fort Worth, one of the two mega churches pastored by Dr. J. Frank Norris at the same time. Dr. Norris is buried in Fort Worth and we were able to see this great soulwinner’s grave.

One of the great honors and privileges of tour is to meet and spend time with great men of God. Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9, was no different for the Hylander Singing Men. We were in Gulfport, MS, with Pastor Steven Crane at his Preaching Jubilee. We were able to spend time with Pastor Crane, Dr. Darrell Cox, and Dr. Noah Frye. What a privilege it was to sing in the same service that these men preached, and to hear them preach was even better!

On June 6-7, the Hylander Singing Men were in Shreveport, LA, with Hyles-Anderson College graduate, Pastor R.K. Young. We were able to enjoy a good time of fellowship with Pastor Young and his family on Saturday night at his house. While we were there we got to know Pastor Young’s grandson, Curtis, who will be a student at Hyles-Anderson College this fall. On Sunday, we were able to encourage the teenagers in their Sunday School class with testimonies of choosing to serve God for themselves, and not making excuses. Afterwards, we enjoyed a great service, in which we sang several songs. However, our greatest honor did not come during the service. It came after dinner when Pastor Young called Dr. Carl Hatch, the great soulwinner, and we had the privilege to sing “Heaven’s Joy Awaits” to him. Afterwards, Dr. Hatch told us that we had made his day. What a blessing!

Indian Hills Baptist Church is the church where Dr. Ray Young (no relation to Pastor R.K. Young) served as youth director and bus director during his high school years.

On June 3, the Hylander Singing Men were in New Orleans enjoying the sights and soul winning. While we were there, we were able to take a ride on the St. Charles Trolley Line. It is the oldest functioning trolley line in the world, and it travels through the historic district in New Orleans. It was a relaxing ride that offered a view of old time New Orleans.
